Contract Finance Manager

Tonbridge, Kent | £200 - £250 per day | Contract

An established, privately owned business based in Tonbridge is looking to appoint an experienced Finance Manager on an ongoing contract basis. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will take ownership of the finance function, manage a small finance team, and provide accurate financial reporting while supporting the business with continuous process improvements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys working within an SME environment and partnering with senior leadership to drive financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a small finance team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function
  • Oversee sales and purchase ledger operations
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns, with exposure to overseas tax submissions where applicable
  • Prepare payroll information, including commission calculations and pension contributions
  • Manage CIS returns, subcontractor payments and HMRC submissions
  • Complete bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Monitor cash flow and produce weekly cash flow forecasts and reports
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and year-end accounts to trial balance
  • Liaise with external accountants, insurers and other professional advisers
  • Support Directors with finance-related HR administration
  • Review and improve financial processes, controls and operational efficiencies

About You

  • Previous experience as a Finance Manager or in a similar senior finance position
  • Experience managing or supervising a small finance team
  • Strong working knowledge of Sage 50, Xero or similar accounting systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proven experience preparing management accounts, VAT returns and payroll information
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the business

  • Day Rate: £200 - £250 per day, depending on experience
  • Contract: Ongoing contract assignment
  • Location: Tonbridge, Kent
  • Hours: Full-time
