Finance Manager – Dalriada Trustees

Background to the Role

The 3173 Group is an ambitious, fast-growing software and professional services business operating across the defined benefit pensions industry. Established almost 20 years ago, 3173 is now a market leader in Trustee, Administration, Actuarial, Investment, and technology services for pension schemes.

  • Only served out of its Belfast headquarters.
  • Recently secured significant investment from Synova, a leading growth investor, in September 2022, enabling further expansion.

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth, 3173 is seeking a Finance Manager to:

  • Take full ownership of financial management for Dalriada Trustees.
  • Oversee P&L and balance sheet integrity.
  • Lead client billing arrangements, including complex structures.
  • Reporting to the Group Financial Controller.

About You

We’re looking for a qualified accountant with:

  • Post-qualification experience in a fast-paced, commercial finance environment.
  • Leadership experience as a Finance Manager or equivalent.
  • A passion for the pensions industry, particularly within professional services or complex billing environments.

Responsibilities

Key Duties

  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Manage a small finance team, providing coaching, mentoring, and career development.
  • Financial Reporting
    • Lead preparation of monthly management accounts (revenue, expenses, variance analysis).
    • Prepare Financial Performance Reports and Finance Board Reports.
  • Financial Compliance
    • Assist in audited financial statements and provide audit evidence to external auditors.
    • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Client & Revenue Management
    • Lead complex billing (time-based, fixed-fee, milestone structures).
    • Ensure accurate and timely invoicing & revenue recognition.
    • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), recoverability, and debt collection.
  • Commercial & Strategic Support
    • Partner with the non-finance team on financial insights, profitability analysis, and performance improvements.
  • Group Reporting
    • Assist in routine financial reporting across the Group, supporting the Financial Controller and CFO as needed.

Minimum Requirements (Essential)

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong A-level academic record.
  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified accountant.
  • Proven post-qualification experience in commercial finance (Finance Manager or similar).
  • Experience in professional services or complex billing sectors preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, including staff training and development.
  • Advanced accounting software experience (e.g., NetSuite for sales, purchase, nominal ledgers).
  • Thorough understanding of revenue recognition principles, particularly with time & materials, project-based billing.
  • Strong commercial awareness with KPI reporting experience.

Soft Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • High self-motivation, capable of working without close supervision.
  • Ability to manage workload efficiently with tight deadlines and a high precision mindset.
  • Strong relationship-building skills externally and internally.

Circumstances & Conditions

Location

  • Belfast, Manchester, or Glasgow (hybrid-based role).

Hours & Probation

  • 37.5 hours/week (Mon-Fri), with occasionally additional hours as required.
  • All positions involve a 6-month probation period.
  • Access NI check mandatory for all applicants.
