Financial Officer (Finance Team)

Location: Endeavour House, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 2BX – Hybrid Salary: £28,598 per annum (pro rata for part-time) Hours: 18.5 hours per week (flexible options available) Contract: Permanent

About the Role

We’re searching for a proactive Finance Officer to provide critical financial support to directorates and maintained schools. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining sound financial management, ensuring compliance with budgeting guidelines, forecasting, and regulatory standards. As the bridge between finance teams and key stakeholders, you’ll provide clear, actionable insights while upholding accuracy and best practices.

Core Responsibilities

Key Duties

  • Analyse and interpret financial data to support informed decision-making, including budget monitoring and forecasting.
  • Input, track, and reconcile finance transactions such as journals, virements, and expenditure logs with precision.
  • Advising and assisting colleagues—whether governance staff or budget holders—by translating financial information into understandable terms.
  • Enhancing financial processes through continuous improvement, ensuring streamlined systems that optimise resource allocation.
  • Support team resilience by monitoring helpdesk queries and email support, offering timely guidance to finance colleagues.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with departments while contributing to proactive risk management.

What You’ll Bring

Essentials:

  • AAT qualification or equivalent finance knowledge.
  • Four GCSEs (Grade 4–9 or C+), including Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience supporting a busy finance team in accounting, reconciliations, or similar roles.
  • Strong ability to:
    • Explain financial concepts succinctly to non-experts.
    • Maintain error-free records and ensure data integrity.
    • Adapt and prioritise workloads under deadlines with minimal error.
  • Essential IT skills, with proficiency in spreadsheets and accounting software (Excel, Sage, etc.).
