Finance Officer – Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS)
Location: Calcot, Reading Contract Type: Full Time (37 hours per week) - Permanent Salary: £33,699 – £38,220 per annum (Grade 4) (pay award pending) Closing Date: 09:00 on 3 July 2026

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) as a Finance Officer. The successful candidate will provide critical support to a range of finance functions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to financial regulations while contributing to the organisation’s financial planning, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
- Provide efficient and effective finance administration and services, maintaining accurate financial records.
- Support budget setting, forecasting, monitoring, and financial reporting cycles.
- Offer financial advice and respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and customers.
- Process and monitor employee expenses, mileage claims, and procurement card activity while ensuring compliance with internal procedures.
- Ensure all external financial reporting is completed accurately, efficiently and on time.
- Deliver excellent customer service to RBFRS stakeholders through prompt, professional, and courteous responses.
About You (Key Requirements)
We are seeking a motivated individual with:
- A strong foundation in finance, including knowledge of:
- Accounting practices, accounts payable & receivableprocessing, payroll regulations, and VAT.
- Pension fund accounting and reporting.
- Competency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook, with an ability to:
- Perform financial reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to:
- Manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Work both independently and collaboratively within a small team.
- Experience (or willingness to learn) in procurement management, expense claims, and banking transactions.
