Job Opportunity: Finance Officer
Post: Finance Officer Location: Harris Academy Peckham & Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich Salary: £32,712.26 - £34,706.16 per annum (40 weeks, 37.5 hours per week) Contract: Full-time
Do you have professional or school-based experience in finance? We are looking to appoint a dedicated, organised, and detail-oriented Finance Officer to oversee financial duties across both academies.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is reliable, proactive, committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality.
Summary of Role
The Finance Officer will assist both academies in managing financial responsibilities efficiently and securely, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and supporting the smooth operation of financial processes.
Main Areas of Responsibility
The role encompasses a broad range of financial management tasks, including:
- Managing:
- Purchase orders
- Invoices
- Expenses and supplier queries within the finance system
- Processing:
- BACS payments
- Credit card transactions
- Petty cash forms
- Completing monthly bank reconciliations
- Handling bursary claims, raising sales invoices, and ensuring timely income collection
- Supporting budget holders with monthly financial monitoring and reporting
- Management of the ParentPay system, including dealing with:
- Queries
- Debtor monitoring
- Generating and supporting financial reporting
- Producing tailored finance reports such as:
- Expenses for trips
- Tuition invoicing
- Consumables logs
- Maintaining:
- Accurate financial records
- Regular filing systems for financial documentation
- Ensuring compliance with:
- Academy financial regulations
- Internal procedures and deadlines
- Managing:
- Contract registration
- Tendering process
- Contract renewals
- Collaborating with senior leadership to ensure:
- Value for money
- Effective financial spending
- Assisting with:
- Internal audits
- External financial audits
- Providing general finance support and addressing ad-hoc financial uncertainties or queries.

Qualifications & Experience Required
We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate the following:
- Qualifications:
- Level 3 or above equivalent (or higher, such as A-levels or a finance-related qualification in mathematics/accounts)
- Experience:
- Minimum one year of experience in a finance department
- Experience working in financial controls, including:
- Budget setting
- Budget management
- A strong track record of attention to detail and confidentiality in financial handling
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills to interact with a diverse of stakeholders, including colleagues, parents, vendors, and operational teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel)
- High numeracy skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part a team approach to financial governance
