Salary: £32,061 - £33,699 (Grade D13) Directorate: Finance Location: East Midlands Contract: Full-time, Permanent Reports to: Finance Operations Manager

About the Role

We are looking for a Finance Officer (Operations) to join our Finance team and support the delivery of high-quality financial services across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or a similar finance environment who enjoys working in a fast-paced role, managing a varied workload, and providing excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

You will play a key role in ensuring supplier payments, customer billing, credit control activities, and financial records are processed accurately and efficiently. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will help maintain strong financial controls, support audit requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement across finance operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Processing supplier invoices, credit notes, and payment requests accurately and in line with financial controls and procedures.
  • Supporting customer billing processes and ensuring invoices are raised within agreed timescales.
  • Carrying out credit control activities and assisting with the management of outstanding debt.
  • Setting up and maintaining supplier and customer accounts, ensuring records are accurate and compliant.
  • Reconciling Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable control accounts, investigating discrepancies, and resolving issues.
  • Responding to queries from suppliers, customers, and colleagues, providing professional and timely support.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end financial processes, including analysis and reporting activities.
  • Preparing information and documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and audit trails in accordance with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and contribute to the continuous development of finance operations.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working within Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, finance operations, or a similar financial processing environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accuracy when processing financial transactions and records.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a varied workload while managing a high volume of transactions.
  • Experience working to deadlines and meeting performance targets in a busy operational environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve issues effectively.
  • Good working knowledge of financial systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage professionally with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Understanding of financial regulations, compliance requirements, and data protection principles.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience contributing to improvements in financial processes, procedures, or systems.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Qualifications

  • AAT Level 3 qualification (or working towards AAT Level 4), or equivalent relevant experience.
