Role Summary
This is a hands-on finance operations role supporting reconciliations, settlement, safeguarding, month-end close and process improvement in a regulated fintech. The role works closely with the CFO, Operations, Engineering and external accountants to ensure accurate, controlled and scalable finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Operations
- Own daily reconciliations between bank accounts, payment platform balances, customer wallet balances, settlement accounts and internal ledgers.
- Support card scheme and processor settlement reconciliations, including settlement files, processor reports, scheme fees, interchange, refunds, chargebacks, reversals, failed transactions and timing differences.
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks, payment exceptions, duplicated postings, missing transactions.
- Support safeguarding processes, including client-money reconciliations, safeguarding calculations, segregation checks and preparation of evidence for review.
Accounting and Reporting
- Own month-end close activities, including bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, P&L review, cost accruals and month-end close checklists.
- Prepare and post accounting journals, including revenue, transaction fees, FX gains/losses, bank fees, processor fees, scheme fees, accruals and month-end adjustments.
- Assist with monthly management accounts, budget versus actual analysis, cash reporting, revenue analysis, cost reporting and commentary for the CFO.

Regulatory Finance and Controls
- Assist with regulatory finance inputs, including own funds monitoring, safeguarding reporting, liquidity information and evidence required for audits, banking partners or regulators.
- Help improve finance operations processes, reconciliation controls, reporting outputs and month-end procedures.
Product, Platform and Process Improvement
- Support testing of new payment flows, card products, transaction types and platform changes.
- Work with the Engineering team to improve platform reporting, ledger logic, reconciliation tools, and finance dashboards.
- Help document finance processes, control gaps, reconciliation procedures and remediation steps.
Our Expectations
- 5+ years’ experience in finance operations, reconciliations, accounting or payments operations within a regulated financial services environment.
- Experience in an EMI, PSP, card issuer, acquirer, FX provider, bank, neobank, remittance business or high-volume fintech is strongly preferred.
- Good understanding of reconciliations, settlement processes, accounting journals, month-end close and financial controls.
- Experience with card settlement, Visa, Mastercard or UnionPay scheme processes, payment processing, safeguarding or client-money reconciliations would be highly advantageous.
- Strong data analysis skills, including experience with AI-enabled tools.
- Comfortable reviewing platform ledger logic, transaction flows and operational finance reports.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership mindset and ability to operate in a fast-paced regulated environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document processes, issues, conclusions and remediation steps.
