Finance Student Placement (12 Months)

MediaCityUK, Salford, Greater Manchester

Are you studying towards a degree in Finance, Accounting or a related subject and looking for a placement where you'll gain real responsibility from day one? Or perhaps you're a recent graduate ready to take your first step into a professional finance environment?

At SIS, we're offering an exciting 12-month placement within our Finance Transactional Team, giving you the opportunity to gain valuable experience across both Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger functions while working alongside experienced finance professionals in a fast-paced international business.

This is more than just a placement. It's an opportunity to build practical accounting and commercial finance skills, develop your confidence, and make a genuine impact on the success of the business.

About the Role

Reporting to the Transaction Manager, you will support the smooth and accurate running of our Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger operations. You'll work closely with colleagues across the business, customers and suppliers, helping to ensure invoices, payments, reconciliations and account records are maintained to a high standard.

Over the course of the placement, you'll develop a strong understanding of accounting controls, ledger management, credit control processes and financial administration, providing an excellent foundation for a future career in finance.

What You'll Be Doing

Sales Ledger

  • Proactively chasing outstanding customer payments via telephone and email
  • Monitoring customer accounts and aged debt balances
  • Investigating and resolving customer account queries
  • Supporting credit control activities to help improve cash flow
  • Allocating customer payments and maintaining accurate account records
  • Assisting with new customer account set up and credit checking processes

Purchase Ledger

  • Processing supplier invoices accurately and on time
  • Following up invoice approvals in line with company procedures
  • Investigating and resolving invoice discrepancies and supplier queries
  • Reconciling supplier statements and clearing outstanding items
  • Supporting payment runs and supplier payment administration
  • Maintaining accurate supplier account records
  • Monitoring aged creditor balances and escalating issues where required

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supporting the preparation of management information, reports and KPI data
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the business
  • Contributing ideas to improve processes and ways of working
  • Developing your finance knowledge through hands-on experience and ongoing support

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from students currently studying for a degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline, as well as recent graduates looking to gain practical experience.

You'll also have:

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • A professional and customer-focused mindset
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop within a finance environment

Location & Working Pattern

📍 MediaCityUK, Salford (Greater Manchester)
🕘 Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm
🏠 Hybrid working, with 3 days per week in the office and 2 days working from home
