About the Role

This is a temporary, on-site Finance Supervisor role based in Birmingham. The Finance Supervisor will:

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including:
    • Processing and reviewing financial transactions
    • Maintaining accurate financial records
    • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
  • Supervise finance procedures and:
    • Monitor income and expenditure
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and relevant regulations
  • Review financial statements and reports, including:
    • Supporting internal and external audit activities
    • Providing clear financial analysis to aid decision-making
  • Collaborate with colleagues, student groups, and external partners to:
    • Offer guidance on financial processes
    • Ensure timely reporting
    • Promote good financial practice across the Union

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A strong foundation in Finance and Accounting, with practical experience in an organisational setting
  • Proficiency in:
    • Preparing, reviewing, and interpreting Financial Statements
    • Ensuring their accuracy and compliance
  • Analytical skills to:
    • Assess financial data
    • Identify trends
    • Provide clear, data-driven insights and recommendations
  • Experience with auditing processes, including:
    • Supporting internal controls
    • Audit preparation
    • Responding to audit queries
  • A relevant professional qualification or pursuing one (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA) or a degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Competence in:
    • Accounting software
    • MS Excel, including reconciliations and reporting
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to:
    • Meet deadlines in a busy environment
  • Clear communication skills, including:
    • Explaining financial information to non-specialists
    • Collaborating with diverse stakeholders
  • An understanding of—or interest in—working within a students’ union, charity, or not-for-profit environment (beneficial)
