Finance Technical Specialist – Tax and Treasury Team Leader

to join our Treasury, Tax and Insurance (TTI) Team within the Finance Directorate.

The TTI team is a collaborative, specialist team based at our Bridge office in Stepps near Glasgow, playing a critical role in ensuring robust tax and treasury governance and compliance across the Scottish Water Group.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead and develop a small team, providing direction, coaching, and support to ensure consistent delivery of a high-quality tax and treasury service.
  • Work closely with colleagues to review and improve processes and controls, ensuring they are effective, efficient, and aligned with current requirements.
  • Lead delivery of corporation tax compliance across the Scottish Water Group, including:
    • Preparation and submission of corporation tax returns
    • Country-by-country reporting
    • Compliance with BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) requirements
  • Support year-end statutory and regulatory reporting.
  • Play an important role in achieving the Fair Tax Mark annually while maintaining HMRC low-risk status.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in corporation tax, supporting stakeholders on direct tax obligations with a consistent and controlled approach.
  • Coordinate the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) process, ensuring delivery in line with requirements and supported by appropriate documentation and controls.
  • Engage with HMRC on audits and enquiries, providing practical advice to colleagues across the business.
  • Identify and manage tax risks, support implementation of appropriate actions, and contribute to system developments and business initiatives with tax implications.
  • Have oversight of treasury activities, particularly:
    • Monitoring cash flow
    • Ensuring sufficient liquidity aligns with the organisation’s risk appetite
    • Supporting cash management processes and governance controls
  • Stay up to date with tax legislation changes and support implementation across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the development of the Group’s Tax Strategy, engaging with external bodies like the Water UK Direct Tax Group.
  • Report to the Tax, Treasury and Insurance Manager and collaborate with colleagues across Finance and the wider business.

What You’ll Need

To succeed, you should bring:

  • Significant experience in corporation tax within a large/complex organisation.
  • Strong track record in compliance and reporting.
  • A professional qualification (e.g. CIOT, ATT, or ACCA), or equivalent experience.
  • Clear communication skills to explain complex tax matters to non-technical teams.
  • Experience leading or supporting teams and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills, efficient workload management, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in IT skills, including Excel, and experience with tax/financial systems.

Grade 8 New employees: £54,776–£74,386 p.a.

Job Requirements
