Trust Us to Serve Scotland

Together with Scottish Water, we’ve been Trusted to Serve Scotland since 1997. We’re proud to protect Scotland’s water resources—a precious national asset from source to tap—and safeguard the environment for generations to come.

An exciting, high-profile opportunity has emerged for an experienced, motivated Finance Technical Specialist – Tax and Treasury Team Leader to join our Treasury, Tax and Insurance (TTI) team within the Finance Directorate, based at our Stepps office near Glasgow.

About the Role

The TTI team is a collaborative, specialist group playing a critical role in maintaining robust tax and treasury governance and compliance across the Scottish Water Group. This is a fantastic chance to make a lasting impact while advancing your career in a financially progressive, well-supported environment.

You’ll report to the Tax, Treasury, and Insurance Manager and work closely with colleagues across Finance and the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

This leader role will require you to:

1. Tax Expertise & Strategic Leadership

  • Lead a small team, providing clear direction, coaching, and support to ensure high-quality tax and treasury compliance and process improvement.
  • Lead corporation tax compliance across Scottish Water Group, including:
    • Preparation and submission of corporation tax returns.
    • Country-by-country reporting.
    • Compliance with BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) requirements.
  • Coordinate the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) process, ensuring documentation and controls are in line with regulatory obligations.
  • Engage with HMRC during audits and enquiries, providing clear, practical tax advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage tax risks, advising on appropriate actions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in corporation tax and support other direct tax obligations (e.g., withholding, PAYE).
  • Support year-end statutory and regulatory reporting, contributing to theorganisation’s annual Fair Tax Mark and maintaining HMRC low-risk status.

2. Treasury Governance & Cash Management

  • Oversee treasury activities, particularly cash flow monitoring to ensure sufficient liquidity aligns with the organisation’s risk appetite.
  • Support effective cash management processes and strong governance frameworks.
  • Monitor treasury system performance and liquidity management.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

    • Exposure to other direct tax obligations (e.g., VAT, SDRT).
