Position Summary
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Financial Accountant to join the Financial Accounting team in Paisley, supporting our expanding Global Business Services (GBS) Centre. This role offers exceptional career development and diverse exposure across Thermo Fisher’s businesses.

The ideal candidate will:
- Serve as a key team member within the Finance Team, reporting to the Finance Manager in the EMEA team.
- Ensure financial accuracy for assigned entities.
- Demonstrate strong stakeholder management and the ability to prioritise deliverables effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Bring experience in month-end accounting processes, with a deep understanding of accounting principles.
This role includes regular liaison with senior leadership, providing real-world exposure across Thermo Fisher’s Global Business Services (GBS)-supported operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accountability & Compliance
- Responsible for monthly closing activities, including:
- Preparing journal entries and accruals
- Handling reporting and analysis processes
- Ensure compliance with local tax requirements, supported by site teams, on a timely basis
- Maintain compliance with:
- US GAAP
- Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Company policy and standard operating procedures
- Recommends process improvements to enhance control environments
- Supports internal and external audit requirements
Continuous Improvement & Systems
- Drives operational efficiency by:
- Implementing continuous improvement initiatives
- Leveraging systems to strengthen controls and automation
- Participates in process improvement initiatives (PPIs) and system implementations

- Proactively listens and collaborates across different functional areas
- Builds and maintains strong working relationships with both:
- Internal stakeholders
- External partners
Additional Responsibilities
- Assists with ad-hoc financial duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
- Global accounting qualification (e.g. ICAS, ACCA, CPA, ACA, CIMA)
- Proven experience in financial accounting
- Deep technical accounting knowledge, with a strong understanding of US GAAP
- Excellent attention to detail, able to deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines
- Proactive problem-solving mindset, with a focus on compliance and controls
- High ethical standards and strong professionalism/accountability
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to build and sustain strong stakeholder relationships
Preferred
- Proficiency in SAP ERP systems
