The Role & Responsibilities

Financial Accountant (SME Franchise) – Full-time

A Financial Accountant responsible for ensuring the financial integrity of portfolios within Shawbrook’s SME division, focusing on month-end processes, controls and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure month-end accounting entries and reconciliations are completed on time to meet the general ledger close deadline and facilitate reporting.

  • Validate data integrity through oversight of controls, cross-checks and conciliations.

  • Complete month-end processes:

    • Loan balances and interest income recognition
    • EIR (Effective Interest Rate) accounting
    • Consolidation of the Bank’s SME subsidiaries
  • Manage daily and month-end processes for Third-Party Forward Flow portfolios, fostering relationships with business teams and outsource administration suppliers.

  • Act as a subject matter expert for internal/external changes, leading implementation of new forward flow portfolios and driving financial control process improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

  • Assist in preparing financial statements for SME subsidiaries and supporting internal and external audits (respond to inquiries and provide financial documentation).

  • Explore process improvements via automation & AI.


The Person

We’re looking for a Financial Accountant with the following qualifications and traits:

Key Requirements:

  • Professional qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in the Financial Services sector
  • Team player who embraces collaboration
  • Technical expertise with SUN general ledger systems (or comparable) and Blackline reconciliation software
  • Hands-on experience with financial reconciliations
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with internal teams, clients and external stakeholders
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Analytical problem solver with a detail-oriented approach
  • Skilled at building effective working relationships
  • Customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiastic, proactive "can-do" attitude
