Financial Accountant

Financial Accountant (37 hours per week, Permanent)

Location: Contractual base in Salvus House, Durham (with hybrid working opportunities)

Salary range: £38,372 - £47,961 (pro rata), plus a discretionary bonus potential of up to 8% of annual salary

Job Level: C

Reporting to: Finance Manager


About the Role

The Financial Control team at Wave manages the organisation's financial control framework, producing monthly and annual financial reports, and maintaining risk-mitigating controls to enhance financial accuracy. You'll oversee external audit coordination, tax compliance, and banking relationships while working in a dynamic environment.

This role specifically focuses on the day-to-day treasury function, including:

  • Cash management
  • Cashflow forecasting
  • Management accounts preparation
  • VAT returns

Ideal candidates will have a background in financial controls, management accounts, and treasury activities.


Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Daily/weekly/monthly cashflow forecasting to meet bank and shareholder requirements
  • Ensure an efficient cash position through liasion with banks
  • Maintain and manage Wave’s Treasury Policy while ensuring compliance with banking agreements
  • Coordinate quarterly bank audits
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and VAT returns
  • Assist in annual statutory accounts preparation
  • Support the external audit process

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in cashflow/working capital management with banking arrangements and compliance responsibilities
  • Hands-on expertise in financial reporting
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and statutory accounts preparation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong analytical/problem-solving skills
  • Ability to implement robust financial processes and controls
  • Chartered accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
