Financial Accountant Job Description – Sheridan Maine (On Behalf Of A Leading Weymouth Organisation)


Location: Hybrid – 2 days office, 3 days home working Contract: Full-time


About the Role

Sheridan Maine is delighted to partner with a prominent Weymouth-based organisation, looking to appoint an experienced Financial Accountant to lead their finance team. This technically varied role presents an opportunity to specialise in statutory reporting, audit management, team development, and financial oversight within a complex, multi-entity environment.

You will spearhead accurate financial reporting across the group, drive process improvements, and act as the trusted technical accounting advisor for the business.


Key Responsibilities

  • Consolidated Statutory Reporting:

    • Lead preparation of consolidated and subsidiary statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with:
      • IFRS standards
      • UK GAAP regulations
    • Manage reporting across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
  • Close & Reconciliation Processes:

    • Oversee month-end close activities, including:
      • General ledger processes
      • Balance sheet reviews and reconciliations.

  • Audit Management:

    • Take ownership of the external audit, acting as the primary executor and audit liaison.
    • Ensure a streamlined audit cycle for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Accounting & Compliance:

    • Provide accounting expertise across the organisation, including:
      • Reviewing accounting standard updates (IFRS/UK GAAP)
      • Preparing technical papers where needed.
    • Maintain group balance sheet controls, identifying risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Process & Team Development:

    • Enhance finance processes, procedures, and control frameworks.
    • Mentor a small team with guidance, coaching, and skill development support.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure:
      • Financial accuracy
      • Timely reporting.

About You

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • A qualified accountant ( habilidades EACH como ACA, ACCA, CIMA delivered).
  • Technical proficiency in IFRS/UK GAAP applicable, with consolidated accounts experience.
  • Audit exposure (acting as primary auditor contact preferred).
  • Experience in statutory account preparation/management.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving expertise, and process/control improvement track record.
