Financial Accountant – Dorset (Hybrid Working)
Exciting Opportunity for an Experienced ACCA/ACA Qualified Accountant
Are you a technically strong ACCA or ACA qualified accountant looking for your next challenge? We’re seeking a skilled Financial Accountant to join an established business based in Dorset—where you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality statutory and regulatory reporting while driving continuous improvement in the finance function.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an accountant who thrives on technical accounting, auditor collaboration, process-led improvements, and team development within a collaborative finance environment.
Hybrid working model: Only 2 days per month required on-site.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, this role involves delivering key financial reporting activities across the group, with compliance, accuracy, and efficiency at its core. You’ll ensure group accounts, VAT returns, and audit processes run smoothly while fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and process enhancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Group Consolidation & Statutory Filings
- Preparing and reporting subsidiary company statutory accounts.
- Supporting the production of consolidated group accounts with precision and timeliness.
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Coordinating all external regulatory reporting.
- Preparing and submitting group VAT returns, liaising with HMRC, and responding to VAT queries/consultations.
- Ensuring full compliance with statutory filing deadlines and regulations.
- Audit Support & Financial Governance
- Supporting the year-end audit process by managing auditor requests effectively.
- Providing in-depth technical accounting support to resolve complex audit queries.
- Maintaining awareness of updates to accounting standards and reporting requirements.
- External Reporting & Advice
- Producing additional external financial reports tailored to stakeholders.
- Actively supporting the business with technical accounting queries and best practice insights.
- Process Improvement & Efficiency
- Leading initiatives to strengthen financial controls, reporting workflows, and operational efficiencies.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Line managing and developing an Assistant Financial Accountant via regular coaching, delegation, and one-to-one sessions.
- Mentoring junior team members to elevate their skills in financial reporting and accounting.

We’re Looking For…
To thrive in this role, you’ll have:
- Qualified status:
- ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualification is essential.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience in financial or statutory accounting is mandatory.
- Strong hands-on experience preparing subsidiary company statutory accounts and supporting year-end audits.
- Proven experience with group consolidations and technical financial reporting.
- VAT & Regulatory Reporting:
- In-depth knowledge of VAT including preparing returns and liaising with HMRC and external advisers.
- Technical & Reporting Skills:
- Advanced Excel knowledge with regular use in complex finance functions.
- Experience using financial accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Xero, Sage, etc.).
- Leadership & Mentorship:
- Direct experience managing or mentoring team members.
- Core Skills:
- exceptional analytical skills with a thorough attention to detail.
- strong prioritisation skills to handle multiple deadlines flexibly.
- An self-motivated approach, comfort working independently but collaboratively.
