Job Title
CK Rail is seeking a highly experienced and fully qualified Finance Accountant to support the Financial Controller in the delivery of accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, taxation management, payroll oversight, and commercial financial support across the business.
About the Role
This is a key position within the Finance Team, responsible for ensuring robust financial controls, maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation, and providing high-quality financial information to support business decision-making. The successful candidate will be a fully qualified ACCA, ACA, or CIMA professional with strong taxation knowledge and significant experience administering the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
Working closely with senior management, operational teams, and external stakeholders, the Finance Accountant will play a pivotal role in supporting the continued growth and success of CK Rail and the wider CK Holdings Group.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cashflow reporting.
- Produce accurate financial reports and analysis for senior management and directors.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any variances.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and external audits.
Taxation & HMRC Compliance
- Manage and prepare VAT returns, ensuring compliance with all HMRC requirements.
- Take ownership of CIS administration, including subcontractor verification, monthly CIS returns, deduction calculations, and reconciliations.
- Support Corporation Tax processes and liaise with external accountants and tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, P11D reporting, and other statutory obligations.
- Monitor changes to taxation legislation and implement any required business changes.

Payroll & Financial Controls
- Oversee payroll preparation and validation processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Review payroll reconciliations and HMRC submissions.
- Maintain and strengthen financial controls and governance procedures.
- Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with company policies and statutory requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of financial systems, processes, and reporting mechanisms.
Business Support
- Provide financial guidance and support to operational, commercial, and project teams.
- Assist with project cost reporting, procurement analysis, and commercial decision-making.
- Build effective working relationships across the business to support operational performance and profitability.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives, business improvement projects, and future growth plans.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Fully qualified ACCA, ACA, or CIMA accountant.
- Minimum five years' experience in a finance or accounting role.
- Extensive experience preparing management accounts and financial reports.
- Strong knowledge of UK taxation, including VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, and HMRC compliance requirements.
- Significant experience administering and managing the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
- Experience overseeing payroll processes and statutory payroll compliance.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and audit requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using finance systems such as Sage, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Desirable Experience
- Experience within the rail, construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
- Experience working within a multi-company or group structure.
- Knowledge of project accounting and contract cost reporting.
- Experience using Power BI or similar reporting tools.
- Experience supporting business growth, acquisitions, or organisational change.
