Financial Advisor - Life & Inheritance Tax
Job Title: Highly Experienced Financial Adviser (Specialist in IHT & Wealth Structuring)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Financial Adviser to join a specialist advisory team, focused on delivering bespoke life insurance solutions for:
- Inheritance tax (IHT) planning
- Business succession
- Wealth structuring for high net worth (HNW) and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) clients (typically clients with estate values of £10m+)
This is not a volume sales role—it’s a technical, consultative advisory position designed for high-value, complex advice-driven outcomes.
Core Focus Areas
Our proposition centres on: ✔ Complex IHT mitigation strategies, including:
- Trust planning
- Liquidity provision for tax liabilities ✔ Close collaboration with professional introducers, such as:
- Lawyers
- Accountants
- Bankers
- Private client advisers ✔ Large sum assured cases with technically challenging requirements
Role Purpose
As a Financial Adviser in this role, you will:
- Design, advise, and execute life insurance solutions within:
- IHT and estate planning frameworks
- Cross-border wealth strategies
- Act as a trusted adviser alongside lawyers, accountants, banks, and other professional stakeholders
- Manage complex high-value cases, including:
- UK and cross-border estates
- Non-UK residents and internationally mobile clients
- Integrate protection into wider financial and tax planning strategies for seamless client outcomes
Key Responsibilities
1. High Net Worth Client Advising
- Specialist protection strategies for HNW/UHNW clients, including:
- Term life and whole of life for IHT liability mitigation
- Trust-based protection structures
- Family wealth preservation
- Broader personal and business protection advice, such as:
- Life cover, Critical Illness Cover (CIC), Income Protection (IP)
- Relevant Life policies, key person protection, shareholder agreements, and loan covers
- Align solutions with client objectives, including:
- Estate equalisation
- Liquidity for tax liability settlements
- Succession planning

2. Introducer-Led Relationship Model
- Build and nurture relationships with:
- Private client solicitors
- Tax advisors & accountants
- Banking & finance professionals
- Operate as a technical specialist, contributing insights to multi-disciplinary client strategies
- Support introducers with:
- Case structuring ideas
- Technical protection recommendations
3. Complex & Cross-Border Case Structuring
- Advise on multi-jurisdictional, non-UK domiciled clients, including:
- International asset structuring
- Global tax implications
- Handle underwriting challenges, such as:
- Large sum assured selection
- Financial justification requirements
- Enhanced underwriting needs
4. End-to-End Case Management
- Lead technical and strategic aspects of high-value cases:
- Pre-underwriting discussions
- Insurer selection & market positioning
- Coordination of evidence (financial, medical, legal)
- Work with our in-house underwriting team to:
- Negotiate competitive terms
- Achieve practical underwriting solutions
5. Technical Excellence & Compliance
- Deliver FCA-compliant advice, ensuring:
- Suitability reports & case documentation meet regulatory standards
- Stay updated with:
- Changes in IHT and tax legislation
- Protection market developments
Candidate Profile
Experience
Requirements:
- Proven track record in HNW protection or wealth planning
- Experience with high-value insurance (typically £5m+ sum assured)
- Knowledge of introducer-led advisory models
- Collaborative experience with solicitors, accountants, and tax advisors
- Exposure to:
- Complex IHT mitigation cases
- Business succession & land / farming owner estates
