Salary Range: $32,000 – $45,000 Note: Salary is determined based on duties, education, experience, internal equity, and departmental budget.
Position Summary
As a Financial Aid Counselor I, you’ll report to the Director of Student Financial Services and play a pivotal role in:
- Processing financial aid information while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations
- Advising prospective and current students/families in a high-energy, team-driven environment
- Administering federal, state, and institutional student aid programs, including:
- Processing and awarding financial aid in compliance with regulations
- Assisting with professional judgment calls under supervision
- Conducting counseling sessions on financial aid eligibility, funding options, and student account statements
- Performing additional duties as assigned, including data analysis and team collaboration
Key Responsibilities
- Process and verify FAFSA data and student aid applications
- Communicate eligibility, funding options, and payment processes to diverse student populations
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders in enrollment initiatives (e.g., Open House, Experience Temple Days)
- Maintain strict confidentiality (FERPA compliance) while handling sensitive financial records
- Assist with audits, reporting, and policy adherence
- May require overtime, weekend, or early-morning work as needed

Job Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
- (1) year of related experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate accurately and courteously in fast-paced environments (e.g., customer-service experience)
- Clearance and screening obligations:
- Criminal history review
- Child abuse clearance
- FBI fingerprinting
- Conditional employment pending drug screening results
Preferred:
- Experience in financial aid offices, enrollment management, or higher education student services
- Familiarity with systems like:
- Ellucian Banner (Financial Aid module)
- CampusLogic, COD, NSLDS, AES/PHEAA, ELM (FAA Access)
- Knowledge of FAFSA processes, financial aid terminology, or Title IV regulations
- Multicultural proficiency or multilingual skills
- Proven ability to work efficiently in higher ed or administrative roles

Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid role (on-campus + remote). The specific distribution may evolve based on departmental needs.
