Financial Controller

(Full Time)

  • Starting: ASAP
  • Location: Central London (Working from our Film Studios) – Can work from home one day a week.
  • Salary: £42k - £47k DOE

About Us

We are a combined Video Production Agency and Film Studio based in London. Fortemus Films is an awards-winning video production agency. Kennington Film Studios is a commercial film & photography studio in Central London, with:

  • 3 sound-treated studio spaces across 4,500 sqft
  • 1 podcast/vodcast studio

The Role

We are looking for a financial controller to join the team at our award-winning, established film and video production agency and film studio.

Reporting to the Fractional CFO and Managing Director, you will be responsible for:


Finance

Financial Management:

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including:
    • Accounts payable/receivable
    • General ledger
    • Payroll
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor and report variances, providing actionable insights to management.

Regular Tasks

  • Daily reconciliation of bank and nominal ledger balances and maintain accurate ledgers (Sales, Purchases & General).
  • Produce management accounts for CFO to review.
  • Complete and file VAT Returns.
  • Credit Control – chasing clients for outstanding balances and negotiating with suppliers for better credit terms.
  • Prepare and propose daily payment runs.
  • Manage supplier payments and communications.
  • Monitor overhead expenses and general cost of sales.
  • Ensure purchase orders’ processes and systems are adhered to and fit for purpose.
  • Routine procedures – checking off invoices against purchase orders, generating invoices, filing, and ad hoc accounting responsibilities.
  • Raising invoices for projects.

Qualifications & Skills

  • AAT qualified or Qualified by Experience.
  • 3+ years’ work experience in SME.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles.
  • Extensive experience with data entry & record keeping.
  • Proficiency in Xero & Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Capable of working under pressure and independently.
  • Identify areas where processes can be improved.
  • Attention to detail and manage tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills to guide and support employees.
  • Strong organisation skills.
  • A good understanding of the key principles of employment law.
