Financial Controller, Leicester (Hybrid)
A global, US manufacturing group is hiring a Financial Controller to strengthen its finance leadership team in Leicester. Reporting directly to the Finance Director and acting as their trusted deputy, this is a broad Financial Controller role in the East Midlands that blends hands-on financial control across UK and European entities with genuine people leadership and commercial business partnering.
The Role:
This is a role for a finance leader who enjoys both the rigour of strong governance and the variety of an international group environment. As Financial Controller you will keep the finance engine running smoothly across multiple legal entities, develop the team around you, and act as a visible finance presence for business leaders across the region, all from a well-established Leicester base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run the monthly, quarterly and annual close across a portfolio of legal entities, ensuring complete and accurate reporting under both UK and US GAAP
- Lead, coach and develop the finance team across accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger
- Deputise for the Finance Director, providing day-to-day leadership and decision-making across the regional finance function
- Own the control environment, maintaining SOX compliance, sound accounting policies and effective systems
- Oversee consolidated reporting to group, including cash-flow management, intercompany recharges and revenue recognition
- Prepare statutory financial statements and lead the relationship with external auditors through year-end
- Support ERP development and optimisation, and help integrate newly acquired businesses into the group

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
