Financial Controller

Location: County Durham Salary & Benefits: Competitive package + benefits

Elevation Recruitment Group are excited to support a dynamic and forward-thinking business in its search for a Financial Controller.

This vital role will see you working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, driving financial integrity, governance, and strategic commercial support across the organisation. The opportunity offers a stimulating blend of technical finance, business partnering, and team leadership within a fast-paced and expanding business.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the production of monthly management accounts, statutory reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes.
  • Maintain robust financial controls and governance frameworks across the business.
  • Oversee balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and treasury activities.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to enhance performance, working capital, and commercial decision-making.
  • Manage a small finance team.
  • Support strategic planning, tenders, and wider business initiatives.
  • Lead relationships with auditors, banks, and external advisors.
  • Drive process improvement across finance systems and controls.
  • Mentor and develop the finance team.

About You

You’ll be a qualified finance professional with a mix of strong technical skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across the business. Ideal candidates should meet (or have experience comparable to) these criteria:

  • Hold a qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Previous experience in a Financial Controller or similar senior finance leadership role (considered that candidates transitioning from practice without prior controller experience may be viable).
  • Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems.
  • Excellent track record in maintaining financial controls and governance frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Deep technical accounting knowledge, including familiarity with IFRS 15 and IFRS 16.
