Location: Worcester Salary: £75,000 - £90,000
About the Business
Join a well-respected manufacturing company based in Worcester, off junction 7 of the M5. As the Financial Controller, you’ll act as the finance leader for the Worcester site, combining full financial control responsibilities with hands-on plant accounting. The role aligns with the site leadership team and serves as a key business partner to operations, delivering insight, challenge, and control to drive site performance.
Main Duties
As the Financial Controller, your primary responsibilities include:
- Leading, developing, and mentoring the site finance team
- Taking full ownership of the site P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
- Overseeing the finance function and developing professional growth within the team
- Serving as a core member of senior leadership, supporting directors in strategic decisions
- Preparing timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary against budget and forecast
- Delivering group reporting
- Leading the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting rebalances
- Ensuring balance sheet integrity, including monthly reconciliations and review
- Managing the year-end audit process and liaison with external auditors
- Strengthening the internal control environment
- Optimising cash management and working capital, as well as appraising and controlling capital expenditure
- Setting, maintaining, and reviewing standard costs, labour, and overhead recovery rates
- Analysing manufacturing variances (material usage, labour efficiency, overhead absorption, purchase price variance) with clear operational actions
- Overseeing inventory accounting and control, including cycle counting, stock provisions, work-in-progress (WIP) valuation, and physical inventory oversight
- Conducting product costing and margin analyses to support decision-making in pricing, quoting, and make/buy evaluations
- Partnering with the Site General Manager, Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain to drive cost reduction and productivity improvements
- Evaluating financial performance of capital investment proposals and tracking returns
- Developing site KPIs and performance dashboards, linking operational metrics to financial outcomes
- Acting as a key financial liaison, ensuring alignment of policies, reporting, and systems
- Driving continuous improvement in finance processes, systems, and ERP usage
- Providing financial insights into strategy, risk, and opportunity for the site leadership team

Based in Worcester, the role involves joining a supportive finance team within a professional and forward-thinking environment. As Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of leading and mentoring your team while becoming a vital part of the senior leadership team.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
Essential
- Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification
- Proven experience as a financial controller or site/plant controller, specifically within a manufacturing environment
- Strong technical expertise in standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing variance analysis
- Experience producing full monthly management accounts and leading budgeting/forecasting cycles
- Hands-on knowledge of ERP systems, with exceptional Excel and analytical skills
- Ability to serve as a confident business partner who challenges and influences operational stakeholders
- High integrity with a rigorous controls mindset

- Manufacturing industry experience
- Background in business integration, acquisitions, or finance transformation projects
- Track record in people management, particularly developing finance teams
- Comfortable transitioning between shop floor operations and boardroom strategy
- Resilient and adaptable, particularly during periods of ownership change or integration
- Strong communication skills to translate financial data into operational insights
- Commercially curious with a continuous improvement mindset
- Deadline-driven with meticulous attention to detail
