Vero Recruitment has been exclusively retained to appoint a Financial Controller on behalf of a well-established specialist engineering services business in Aberdeen.

Following continued success and investment in the future, the company is entering an exciting new phase of its journey. As a result, they are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to play a key role in supporting the business as it continues to evolve and grow.

The role:

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will assume overall responsibility for the finance function, ensuring the business maintains strong financial controls while providing commercial insight to support strategic decision-making.

This is a broad, hands-on position with significant visibility across the organisation. Alongside managing a small finance team, you will work closely with senior management, gaining a thorough understanding of the business through involvement in operational activities, site visits and commercial tender processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing the finance team, ensuring the accurate, timely and efficient delivery of all financial activities
  • Preparing and presenting the annual budget and financial forecasts
  • Producing monthly management accounts and financial reporting across all business areas, including detailed analysis of income, expenditure and vessel performance
  • Supporting commercial activity through involvement in client presentations, tenders and bid submissions
  • Maintaining and enhancing financial controls, reporting processes and operational procedures
  • Assisting with the preparation of financial information required for external funding and finance applications
  • Undertaking additional responsibilities as required to support the wider leadership team

You will be degree educated and bring a minimum of five years experience within an SME environment, where you've combined strong nuts and bolts skills with a practical, commercially focused approach.

You will possess excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate financial information confidently with both finance and non-finance colleagues. As this role works closely with senior leadership, operational teams and external stakeholders, strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Experience of multi-currency accounting, together with strong cash flow management skills, would be beneficial.
