A successful, privately owned business is seeking a commercially minded Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and support the next phase of growth. This is a pivotal role for someone who enjoys being close to operations, improving processes, and partnering directly with the owners to drive performance.

The Role
As Financial Controller, you will lead all day‑to‑day financial operations while strengthening controls, improving reporting, and ensuring the business has the financial insight it needs to scale. You’ll work closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team, acting as both a technical expert and a commercial partner.
Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the finance function, including month‑end, year‑end, and statutory reporting Produce accurate management accounts, KPIs, and board‑level insight Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management, and working capital Strengthen financial controls, processes, and compliance Partner with operational teams to understand performance and drive profitability Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and external advisors Support stock management, margin analysis, and cost‑to‑serve reporting Lead continuous improvement across systems, processes, and reporting Provide hands‑on support where needed in a lean, fast‑moving environment

Requirements Experience Required Qualified or QBE accountant with strong technical grounding Experience in distributions, logistics, wholesale, or product‑based environment is highly advantageous Proven track record in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or No.2 finance role Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls, and cash management Comfortable operating in an SME or owner‑managed business Ability to balance hands‑on work with strategic input Confident communicator who can influence non‑finance stakeholders
