Role Summary
As a critical member of the EMEA Financial Control team, you will take ownership of month-end closures, variance analysis, cash flow reporting, and statutory filings for Sophos Ltd. and key international legal entities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading month-end accounting for UK, Ireland, Sweden, and Romania, supporting UK GAAP reporting.
- Manually managing month-end accounting for Dubai and Thailand rep offices, including audit preparation.
- Ensuring compliance for financial controls (e.g., GRNI, prepayments, fixed assets).
- Preparing monthly management accounts for UAE and Thailand.
- Supervising annual audits and local statutory tax filings for multiple jurisdictions.
- Contributing to VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), and indirect tax compliance for Sophos Ireland.
- Translating data-driven insights to balance sheet accuracy and regulatory adherence.
- Facilitating collaboration between Finance, Audit, and regional office leaders.
This role plays a strategic bridge between global controlling processes and local regulatory demands, closing gaps to ensure real-time financial visibility and compliance.
What You Will Do
Core Accountabilities

Month-End Close
- Execute UK, Ireland, Sweden, and Romania month-end financial closures strictly on deadlines.
- Prepare accounting reports for review and approval.

Variance & Analysis
- Root-cause analysis for:
- Monthly / quarterly / annual cost variances vs. plan/forecast.
- Dossiers for significant variances for review and justification with EMEA Financial Controller.
- Safeguard financial forecasting accuracy.

Reporting & Compliance
- Ownership of balance sheet reconciliations (monthly ladies) submitted for Slopes Financial Controller review.
- Statutory & Audit Responsibilities:
- Prepare Ireland, Sweden, Romania audits’, local rep offices (UAE/Thailand), and Sophos Ltd annual reporting requirements.
- Lead interim and annual audit support for Sophos Ltd.
- Tax Compliance Handling:
- VAT/WHT management (annual filing, deadlines, policy adherence).
- Obern National Statistics survey submissions.

Cash Flow Management
- Draft monthly cash flow forecasts and reports for UK, Ireland, Sweden, and Romania.
- Ensure Group forecasts align with corporate treasury policies.

Internal Control & Policy Compliance
- Review and sign-off on policies (expenses, travel, etc.).
- Support: tax, commercial finance (e.g., annual R&D tax credits).
- Maintain documented procedures manual, ensuring timeliness and efficiency.

Essential Qualifications
- Accounting Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, or equivalent.
- IFRS & UK GAAP Mastery: Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with accursal accounting.
- Regulatory Experience: Navigating audits, tax advisory, and governmental compliance interactions.
- Month-End / Annual Close: Precision in promptly meeting month-end deadlines and verifying completeness.
- Unified Thinking: Broader “big-picture” accounting across multiple jurisdictions.
- Interactive Force: Engaging with cross-functional teams (Finance, Audit, Legal) and pulling out actionable reports.
- 25% Quality Assurance (!): Ensuring discrepancy-free reports, reducing gaps pre-/and post-notification.
