Role Summary

As a key member of the EMEA Financial Control team, you will:

  • Lead month-end accounting close, variance analysis, and monthly cash flow reporting for Sophos Ltd.
  • Collaborate with Global Process Owners to ensure accuracy in GRNI (Grandfathered Revenue Not Earned Yet), prepayments, and fixed assets accounting.
  • Support the EMEA Financial Controller in producing UK GAAP-based financial statements for Sophos Ltd.
  • Take ownership of monthly management accounts for Dubai and Thailand regional offices, including:
    • Preparation of annual audits
    • Handling local statutory filings
  • Assume full accounting and compliance responsibility for the following legal entities:
    • Sophos Ireland
    • Sophos Sweden
    • Sophos Romania
    • Includes: General ledger management, balance sheet control, local statutory accounts, annual audits, and tax compliance
  • Work with centralised Accounts Payable and Payroll teams, ensuring outputs are reviewed, validated, and approved before finalisation.

Responsibilities

Financial Control

  • Month-end accounting to strict deadlines, submitting finalised accounts for UK, Ireland, Sweden, and Romania to the EMEA Financial Controller for review and approval.
  • Provide monthly/quarterly/annual variance analysis to Plan/Forecast, investigating and justifying significant deviations with the EMEA Financial Controller.
  • Own and review all balance sheet account reconciliations, preparing information monthly for EMEA Financial Controller’s review.
  • Co-ordinate annual statutory reporting and act as the main point of contact for the annual audits of:
    • Sophos Ireland
    • Sophos Sweden
    • Sophos Romania
    • Sophos Ltd’s Dubai and Thailand representative offices
  • Assist in preparing annual statutory reporting and support interim and annual audits for Sophos Ltd.
  • Manage Sales Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), and corporate income tax; ensure on-time filings and payments, while completing tax questionnaires accurately.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed monthly cash flow forecasts and reports for EMEA entities, ensuring compliance with corporate treasury policies.
  • Analyse corporation tax packs in preparation for review by the EMEA Financial Controller.
  • Complete monthly/quarterly/annual Office for National Statistics surveys.
  • Develop and manage a timeline for monthly accounting activities, ensuring smooth and timely close; maintain documented procedures for operations.
  • Uphold compliance with internal policies (e.g., expenses, travel), including review and sign-off.
  • Collaborate with tax and commercial finance teams, analysing data (e.g., annual R&D Tax Credit submissions).

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of IFRS and UK GAAP, accrual-based accounting principles.
  • Hands-on experience in external engagement with auditors, tax advisors, and consultants.
  • Full knowledge of month-end and annual closing accounting procedures.
  • Adaptability to a high-growth, sales-driven, and fast-paced business environment.
  • Financial aptitude—analysing key financial indicators and interpreting business performance.
  • Global mindset—approaching challenges with diverse, macro-level insights.
  • Planning & prioritisation skills to balance workloads, commitments, and organisational goals.
  • Higher-level accounting qualification—ACA or ACCA equivalent.
  • Familiarity with local entity regulations, rules, and tax compliance.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Process improvement experience in finance/controls.
  • SAP experience (strong preference).
  • Familiarity with corporation tax and VAT filings in Ireland.
  • Budgeting and forecasting background.
  • R&D Tax Credit submissions experience.
