Financial Controller

Financial Controller

Location: Soho, London (Hybrid – minimum 3 days in office)

About the Team

PPL’s Finance team manages the planning, organising, auditing, and accounting for the company’s finances. They are responsible for all incoming and outgoing payments, including making over 150,000 payments to performers and recording rightsholders annually.

What you’ll be doing:

Ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of PPL’s financial records and reporting, delivering high-quality financial information, strong internal controls, and disciplined close processes, while supporting the Finance Director in maintaining robust governance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure the general ledger is complete, accurate, and appropriately supported.
  • Own balance sheet reconciliations and issue resolution.
  • Deliver high-quality management accounts and reporting.
  • Ensure statutory, tax, pension, and industry reporting is accurate and compliant.
  • Design and maintain robust financial controls and governance.
  • Support internal and external audit activity.
  • Manage remediation of audit and control findings.
  • Monitor and interpret relevant external developments that may affect PPL’s financial reporting, controls, or disclosures across tax legislation, pension regulation, and accounting standards, to ensure the implications are understood within Finance and across the wider business.
  • Ensure finance processes are documented and operating effectively.
  • Drive improvements in efficiency, quality, and control, with a focus on strong governance and robust reporting.
  • Partner with Head of Finance Transformation and Finance Director to drive finance systems and transformation initiatives.
  • Responsible for balance sheet movements, cash flow, and working capital.
  • Lead AP, AR, and Treasury teams on cash management and investment optimization.
  • Develop positive working relationships at a senior level with internal stakeholders and third parties, including joint venture, auditors, bankers, suppliers, pension administrators, PRS, and other professionals within the industry.
  • Deputise for the Finance Director when required and present at Board, Finance Committee, Executive Management meetings, or other senior stakeholder groups.
  • Recruit and retain a high-performing Finance Controllership function focused on D&I, clear goal setting, respect, collaboration, celebrating success, and a high-performing culture focused on continuous improvement.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Accomplished Finance Controllership leader with proven experience of operating at a senior level.
  • Experience of financial controls, balance sheet governance, cash flow management, and external reporting and compliance.
  • Experience interpreting financial results in the context of regulatory, tax, and market developments.
  • Experience driving process and systems improvement and change management.
  • Relevant industry experience desirable, but not essential.
  • Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, governance, and controls capability.
  • Strong understanding of finance and reporting systems. Workday and Adaptive planning knowledge and experience desirable, but not essential.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate financial and external regulatory or market information.
  • Clear communicator with strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • Team leadership, coaching, and management of high-performing teams.
  • Ability to develop strong business partnering relationships at all levels across the business, including senior management and external partners (consultants, bankers, auditors, tax and pension advisors).
  • UK GAAP / IFRS and UK tax fundamentals, including rules around VAT, WHT, corporation tax, and pension schemes.
  • Implementation and management of strong financial controls and governance.
  • Awareness of relevant industry, regulatory, and market developments affecting financial reporting.
  • Professional, credible, and calm under pressure, with a drive for results and a customer service focus.
  • Strong ownership mindset and collaborative approach.
  • Great at building strong, effective working relationships. Gravitas and ability to work collaboratively with peers and other senior staff.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels within an organization.
  • Ability to work independently, lead teams, and drive change.
  • Commitment to knowledge-sharing, continuous improvement, and embodiment of our PPL values.
