Description
Bath Spa University is seeking an experienced finance leader to join us as Financial Controller. This is a pivotal senior role, responsible for supporting the university’s strategic need to be financially sustainable by creating and managing the financial control environment to ensure:
- Financial information and reporting is accurate, timely, and relevant
- Effective data-driven decision making is enabled
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will oversee:
- Finance Services team
- Management Accounts & Finance Business Partnering
- Financial Accounting team
Ensuring the reporting and control environment for these areas is effective and efficient.
About You
We are looking for a technically strong qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA) with significant experience in financial control, including cash forecasting, ideally within:

- Higher education sector, or
- A similarly complex environment
Key traits include:
- Proven ability to lead and manage finance teams
- Track record of developing and enhancing management accounts and related processes
Essential Requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA)
- Tenure in financial control, including cash forecasting experience
- Evidence of developing and refining financial reporting processes
- Strong leadership experience with a record of managing finance teams successfully
Desirable Experience
- Prior higher education sector working experience
- Assessment of a complex financial environment
