Part-Time Financial Controller | Manchester
About The Role
At The Part-Time Finance People, we partner with ambitious SMEs that need experienced finance professionals to strengthen their businesses. We're looking for a commercially minded Financial Controller to join our team on a self-employed Part-Time basis, supporting one of our established manufacturing client in Manchester. We are looking for someone who has 2/3 days availability to support his client and future clients.
Working closely with the business owners and leadership team, you'll provide practical financial leadership, strengthen financial controls and deliver the commercial insight needed to support growth and better decision-making.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll take ownership of the finance function while acting as a trusted adviser to the senior leadership team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Managing cash flow, forecasting and working capital.
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining strong financial controls.
- Improving finance processes, systems and reporting.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and profitability analysis.
- Monitoring business performance against key financial objectives.
- Liaising with external accountants on year-end accounts and compliance.
- Supporting and mentoring finance team members where required.
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability and financial performance.

About You
You're an experienced Financial Controller who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness. You enjoy working closely with business owners, influencing decision-making and turning financial information into practical recommendations.
Experience within manufacturing, engineering or another operational SME environment would be highly advantageous.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience operating as a Financial Controller within a UK business.
- Strong management accounting and financial reporting expertise.
- Excellent month-end, balance sheet and financial control experience.
- Demonstrable experience in cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
- Experience improving finance processes and internal controls.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence business decisions.
- Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS and financial analysis.
- Experience using Xero; knowledge of Sage 50 or QuickBooks is beneficial.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- ACCA, ACA, CIMA, ICAEW, FCCA or ACMA qualified, or Qualified by Experience (QBE) with significant senior finance leadership experience.
- Previous experience mentoring or supporting finance team members.

The Opportunity
- £38 per hour
- 2–3 days per week
- Onsite with our manufacturing client in Manchester

Eligibility
To apply, you'll need:
- A minimum of 2 years' UK-based experience operating at Financial Controller level.
- The right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
