YOUR MISSION

The Financial Controller is responsible for the comprehensive financial management of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, including specific oversight of Laureus Sport for Good Hong Kong, and acts as the Senior Financial Reporting Manager for Laureus World Sports Awards Limited. This role involves developing and maintaining robust financial systems, leading budgeting and reporting processes, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic financial analysis to support decision-making across all Laureus entities.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?

Financial Reporting & Audit (Group-wide)

  • Prepare and report monthly management accounts for LSFG.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations across all three entities (LSFG, LWSA & LSFGT).
  • Oversee quarterly VAT return lodgements and other HMRC compliance.
  • Lead external audits and manage the year-end process, including preparation of statutory accounts for Laureus World Sports Awards (31 Dec), Laureus Sport for Good Foundation (31 Dec), and Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation (31 Mar).
  • Prepare reports for the Board of Trustees and attend Finance sub-committee meetings and LSFG Trustee meetings (4 per year), delivering finance updates.
  • Ensure all compliance and regulatory functions of the charity are met, including Companies House requirements.
  • Maintain tax compliance, including preparation of year-end tax files for PWC.

Laureus Sport for Good Hong Kong Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial record-keeping.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, facilitate budget holder reviews, conduct variance analysis, and support financial forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budget vs. actuals, and quarterly reporting for leadership.
  • Prepare annual statutory financial statements compliant with HK accounting standards (HKFRS) and End-of-Year (EOY) reporting.

Financial Systems, Planning & Analysis (Group-wide)

  • Lead the annual budget and reforecast processes, working closely with the Chief Executive on financial planning, scenarios, and forecasting.
  • Conduct financial modelling and analysis to support management decision-making for all entities (LSFG, LSFGT) and individual fundraising events.
  • Advise on financial aspects of contracts and ensure high standards of funder reporting in collaboration with the Development team.

Leadership & Engagement

  • Attend and participate in LSFG weekly executive team meetings.
  • Review, raise, and maintain the level of management accounting expertise in budget holders across the organization, particularly within Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc finance communications regarding budget management and key finance procedures.
  • Work with programme managers to support partner programmes, especially those overseas.
  • Review the quarterly National Foundation financial reporting and engage with the National Foundations on finance matters.

HOW WILL YOU EXPERIENCE SUCCESS WITH US?

  • Qualified accountant with a minimum of 5 years' senior-level experience.
  • Experience in leading and managing external audits.
  • Proficiency in year-end reconciliations and documentation for statutory financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of the compliance environment for an incorporated charity, including managing restricted funding and projects.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to non-finance individuals.
  • Strong software skills, particularly advanced MS Excel for high-volume transaction data, budgeting, and report preparation.
  • Experience in change management and process improvement.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, management account preparation, and variance analysis.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Desirable technical skills: Sage 50 Cloud Accounts (current system); Salesforce CRM; SAP Easy (migration planned within 12-18 months)
