About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced, commercially minded Financial Controller to join The Part-Time Finance People and support our SME clients across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role where you’ll:
- Take ownership of the finance function
- Provide meaningful commercial insight
- Help business owners make informed, confident decisions
- Work flexibly across a range of growing businesses
- Deliver high-value financial support where it matters most
About You
You’re an experienced Financial Controller who:
- Enjoys working closely with SMEs and becoming a trusted part of the leadership team
- Combines strong technical expertise with a practical, solutions-focused approach
- Is confident communicating financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Is ideally operating on a self-employed or contract basis, available for a minimum of 2 days per week
- Is able to start at short notice

What You’ll Bring
- Strong experience preparing management accounts and financial reporting
- Expertise in balance sheet reconciliations and month-end processes
- Proven experience in cash flow forecasting and profitability analysis
- Strong systems knowledge, particularly Xero (experience with Sage50 and/or QuickBooks additional value)
- A track record of implementing and improving financial controls and processes
- Commercial awareness with a proactive, business-focused mindset
- Experience supporting year-end processes and external accountants
- Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, SUMIFs, and financial analysis
- Confidence presenting financial information to senior stakeholders and business owners
- Fully qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, ICAEW) or equivalent with significant relevant experience

The Details
- Rate:: £35 per hour
- Location:: Milton Keynes and surrounding areas
- Hours:: 2–3 days per week

Applicants must have:
- A minimum of 3 years’ UK-based experience as a Financial Controller.
