Financial Controller
£60,000–£70,000 | Hybrid | London | 9-Month Fixed-Term Contract
An established creative business is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join its finance team on a 9-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional to step into a broad, hands-on role where you'll work closely with senior leadership, oversee the day-to-day finance function and help drive financial performance across a fast-paced, project-led business.
The Role
Reporting to the CFO, you'll play a key role in maintaining robust financial controls while delivering insightful reporting and commercial support to stakeholders across the organisation. You'll be responsible for ensuring the finance function operates smoothly, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, and providing meaningful analysis that helps inform business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day finance function, ensuring financial transactions are accurately processed and reported.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including reviewing profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and supporting schedules.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning.
- Prepare management reports and provide insightful financial analysis.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and support effective working capital management.
- Partner with operational teams to monitor project performance, client profitability and financial delivery.
- Maintain strong financial controls, processes and compliance across the business.
- Build effective relationships with stakeholders across multiple departments.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.

About You
You'll be a qualified accountant who enjoys working in a collaborative, commercially focused environment and is confident partnering with stakeholders across the business. We're looking for someone with:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or similar.
- Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Experience managing work in progress (WIP), revenue recognition and profitability reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence using finance systems.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- The ability to manage competing priorities within a busy environment.

Previous experience within a creative, marketing, advertising or other project-based professional services environment would be highly advantageous.
