About the Role
As the Transaction Monitoring and Screening Lead, you will be accountable for Aberdeen’s Anti-Financial Crime (AFC) monitoring systems and compliance strategies. The role encompasses strategic vision, cross-functional leadership, and operational excellence in screening and transaction monitoring solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring regulatory compliance across AML, sanctions, fraud, and financial crime controls.
- Leading enhancements, optimisations, and regulatory-driven changes within the AFC environment.
- Collaborating closely with Technology, first-line business units, and second-line AFC functions.
- Partnering with vendors (Nice Actimize, Dow Jones, Factiva, World Check) and suppliers to deliver resilience, workplace agility, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Ownership & Direction
- Define and drive the strategic vision for Aberdeen’s screening tools, ensuring alignment with AML, sanctions, fraud, and broader financial crime frameworks.
- Direct regulatory-led changes and influence technical upgrades, targeting architecture, and future-state assessments.
- Balance risks vs. retain, replace, or evolve decisions for system sustainability.

Governance, Oversight & Stakeholder Management
- Establish and maintain adaptive governance over functional performance, risk management, operational resilience, and data quality.
- Chairs service reviews with Technology/Supply Chain, Internal Audit, and key vendors to ensure quality and performance alignment.
- Drive operating model efficacy for screening and monitoring functionalities.
Requirements, Change & Product Lifecycle Management
- Own and prioritise business and system requirements.
- Partner with Technology (CETO/R&D provides), first-line, and second-line teams to implement structured changes.
- Ensure documented governance for configuration/lifecycle updates and vendor relationship management.
Financial & Commercial Ownership
- Cost optimisation oversight – license management, commercial alignment, and budget transparency across Aberdeen’s three business pillars.
- Negotiate vendor contracting, provider-commercial agreements, and governance costs ensuring equitable implementation.
Operational Alignment & Performance
- Deliver end-to-end monitoring effectiveness: align first-line operations, AFC oversight, and technology alignments.
- Monitor alert effectiveness, investigations, MLRO escalation, and control testing (compliance, benchmarking, audit-readiness approval).
- Maintain governance documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and resilience.
Vendor & Supplier Management
- Senior escalation point for service failures, performance issues, and vendor deficiencies with Nice Actimize, Dow Jones, Factiva and World Check.
- Engage directly on practice tuning, optimisation, and innovation to support streamlined service delivery.

Ideal Background & Competence: A superior candidate must possess:

Essential Qualifications & Expertise:
- Senior/strategic experience with anti-financial crime (AFC), screening, and transaction monitoring capabilities within the financial services space.
- Deep understanding of regulatory requirements (AML, sanctions, fraud) and their operational implications.
- Proven governance and stakeholder strategy skills with capability to engage across first-line, second-line, and technology layers.
- Strong ability to translate business needs into actionable system design and optimisations.

- Formal qualifications in compliance, risk management, or financial crime analytics.
- PDF experience with vendors like Nice Actimize, Dow Jones, Factiva, or World Check.
- Cost control strategies familiarity—cost allocation, service reviews, vendor partnership.
