Apointe are partnering on an exclusive retained basis with a highly successful, well-established business to appoint a Commercial Finance Director.
This is not a traditional Finance Director opportunity. We're looking for someone who wants to become a genuine commercial partner to the leadership team. Someone who enjoys understanding how a business really operates, isn't afraid to challenge, builds trust quickly and can influence decisions that genuinely impact business performance. This is a broad, hands-on leadership role where you'll lead an established finance function while taking ownership of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, statutory reporting, governance and commercial performance. You'll have real visibility across the business and play a key role in helping shape strategic decisions.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading and developing an established finance team.
- Owning the budgeting, forecasting and business planning cycle.
- Providing high-quality financial reporting, analysis and commercial insight.
- Partnering closely with the senior leadership team to support strategic decision making.
- Driving improvements across financial controls, reporting and business processes.
- Delivering Board reporting and working closely with external auditors and advisers.
- Supporting financing arrangements, covenant reporting and wider business planning.
- Identifying commercial opportunities, managing business risk and improving overall business performance.
- Building strong relationships across the wider business, becoming a trusted adviser to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
