Financial Operations Officer
Our Financial Operations Officer is responsible for managing the core day-to-day financial processes of the business, ensuring accuracy, control, and efficiency across all operational finance activities. This role plays a key part in maintaining robust financial processes while providing operational insight to aid decision-making and budgetary control across the business.
This is a hands-on position requiring strong attention to detail, ownership of key financial processes, and the ability to work cross-functionally with non-finance stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Attributes
- Experience in a similar financial operations / finance officer role in an SME environment
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliation
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficient using Microsoft Excel
Desirable Skills
- Experience using accounting systems (e.g. Xero, Sage, NetSuite or similar)
- Experience using Lightyear or similar accounts payable platforms
- Confident communicator with the ability to work with non-finance stakeholders
- History working in the technology industry
Transactional Finance
- Manage the end-to-end Accounts Payable function, including invoice processing, payment runs, and supplier management
- Support Accounts Receivable by assisting with invoice preparation, collections, and credit control to optimise cash inflows and minimise aged debt
- Administer and maintain strong control over the Purchase Order (PO) process, working closely with budget holders to ensure proper authorisation and alignment with budgets

Cash and Banking
- Perform regular bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies investigated and resolved
- Manage banking administration, including payment uploads
- Support effective cash flow management through management of pay run preparation
Financial Control and Compliance
- Assist with VAT returns, ensuring accurate reporting and timely submission in line with HMRC requirements
- Support broader compliance activities, including statutory account preparation
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory obligations
Reporting and Business Support
- Provide operational finance insight, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to improve financial performance
- Support monthly reporting processes, including preparation of operational reports and variance analysis
- Assist with departmental budgeting, working with budget holders to track spend against budget and highlight variances
Employee Expenses and Cards
- Review and reconcile staff expense claims, ensuring compliance with company policies and accurate posting
- Manage and reconcile corporate credit cards, ensuring completeness, appropriate coding, and timely resolution of discrepancies
