Role Overview

As a Senior Consultant within the Regulatory Practice of Financial Services, you will be responsible for supporting management in providing regulatory advice and guidance to clients within the financial services sector, supporting them to maintain compliance and manage risk in accordance with regulatory requirements. In addition, you may line manage a team of junior staff and help to develop and grow those individuals in their careers with RSM.

You Will Make An Impact By

  • Ensuring effective management of the client engagement lifecycle;
  • Supporting with the production of tender documents and proposals to secure new business;
  • Supporting the development of the brand through market research, new proposition design, go to market strategies and thought leadership;
  • Supporting the engagement manager with day-to-day delivery of client engagement activities and regulatory horizon scanning;
  • Acting as an ambassador for our brand and developing a network of industry contacts;
  • Conducting structured document reviews and gap analysis against regulatory requirements and industry practice;
  • Structuring and conducting client interviews and process walk-throughs;
  • Developing solutions and drafting reports and detailed recommendations;
  • Completing quality assurance reviews of work undertaken on client projects; and approval of work in line with professional standards.

We Value Diverse Experiences And Perspectives, And We Are Particularly Keen To Hear From Individuals With Strong FCA Regulatory Compliance And Consultancy Expertise. Our Ideal Candidate Will Bring

  • Experience in FCA regulatory compliance, ideally gained within the UK financial services sector. You should have a good working understanding of key areas of the FCA Handbook – such as SYSC, PRIN (including Consumer Duty), COBS, ICOBS, CONC, and financial crime requirements – and be able to research, interpret, and apply these in a practical way with guidance.
  • Some experience in a compliance, advisory, or consultancy‑related role, either within industry or a professional services environment. This may include supporting regulatory projects, preparing well‑structured deliverables, managing your own workload to meet deadlines, and working across different client or stakeholder environments.
  • Practical exposure to core compliance activities, such as reviewing regulatory requirements, assisting with compliance monitoring, supporting thematic reviews, carrying out horizon‑scanning tasks, helping with regulatory mapping or gap analysis, and contributing to the drafting or improvement of compliance policies and procedures.
  • An interest in understanding regulatory developments and the ability to translate findings into clear, actionable insights for colleagues or clients. Experience supporting work related to supervisory requests, remediation programmes, or readiness assessments would be beneficial, though not essential.
  • A growing awareness of FCA priorities and emerging themes, with the ability to consider how these may impact firms. You should be comfortable supporting senior team members in developing proportionate and practical compliance solutions.
  • A proactive, motivated, and organised approach, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, maintain quality, and adapt to changing priorities in a busy environment.
  • General knowledge of the UK financial services sector and its regulatory environment, including familiarity with key regulatory bodies such as the FCA and PRA.
  • The post holder will be expected to travel to the client’s sites in their own time, limited where possible to one and a half hours each way.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders and produce clear, professional outputs. You should be able to show how you have added value in your roles to date and contributed to positive change or improvements.
