About the Role: Senior Consultant – Regulatory Practice (Financial Services) at RSM UK

As a Senior Consultant within the Regulatory Practice of Financial Services, you’ll support clients in maintaining compliance and managing risk in alignment with regulatory requirements while shaping the future growth of our business. You’ll work closely with management, contribute to business development, and mentor junior staff—combining expertise with people leadership.

Key Responsibilities

You will make a meaningful impact by:

  • Client Engagement Lifecycle Management

    • Overseeing compliance and regulatory risk throughout the project journey, from initiation to delivery.
    • Supporting proposals and tenders to secure new business opportunities.
  • Brand & Market Development

    • Driving market research and thought leadership to refine go-to-market strategies.
    • Collaborating on product innovation and expanding our consulting propositions.

  • Operationalise Client Relationships

    • Partnering with engagement managers to deliver client engagements:
      • Conducting regulatory horizon scanning (e.g., Consumer Duty, FCA Handbook updates).
      • Acting as a client advocate and network builder while ambassadising our brand.
    • Acting as a subject-matter expert in:
      • Structured document reviews and gap analysis.
      • Client interviews, process walkthroughs, and risk assessments.
  • Quality & Delivery Leadership

    • Developing detailed recommendations and drafting regulatory-compliance narratives.
    • Ensuring high-quality assurance through peer reviews and adherence to professional standards.
    • Mentoring junior team members to align with organisational growth goals.

What We’re Looking For

We thrive on diverse perspectives and are particularly seeking candidates who:

🔹 Complement our culture of impact—do you delight in spotting inefficiencies and driving continuous improvement?

You will brings strong FCA & regulatory compliance experience, ideally within UK financial services, with the following focus:

Core Knowledge & Skills: ✔ Deep insight into FCA regulatory frameworks, including:

  • SYSC, PRIN (incl. Mandatory Consumer Duty), COBS, ICOBS, CONC, and financial crime (e.g., ML/TF, Bribery Act).
  • Practical application and research of Handbook rules, plus interpretation of supervisory guidance.

✔ Prior consultancy/compliance experience in:

  • Delivering well-structured deliverables (e.g., remedies programmes, readiness assessments).
  • Managing deadtines, workloads, and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Conducting thematic reviews, horizon scanning, and compliance documentation (e.g., policies, trainings).

✔ Curiosity & analytical skills to:

  • Translate complex regulations into clear recommendations.
  • Stay ahead of FCA priorities (e.g., S寺RED, anti-fraud measures).
  • Collaborate with senior teams to design practical compliance solutions.

Requirements

  • Professional fluency in FCA Handbook requirements (ideally UK FS sector).
  • Experience in compliance or consultancy (regulatory, banking, insurance, treasury backgrounds ideal).
  • Structured analytical mind—proven ability to interpret regulations and propose actionable improvements.
  • Travel readiness: Ability to visit client sites (limited to <90 mins commute).
