Summary
As we scale, we are investing in operational excellence across our hybrid infrastructure estate — spanning AWS, multi-cloud, and colocation environments — and need dedicated expertise to drive visibility, accountability, and optimisation of our infrastructure spend.
You will be responsible for building the dashboards, allocation models, and reporting frameworks that enable Smart Communications to understand true cost-to-serve per customer, feature, and region — providing the insight our board needs to make strategic infrastructure decisions and ensuring healthy margins across our product portfolio.

Responsibilities

Cost Visibility & Reporting
- Build executive dashboards and board-ready reports covering infrastructure spend, cost trends, margins, and unit economics
- Develop showback / chargeback models and lead regular cost reviews with Engineering, Product, and Finance stakeholders

Cloud & Infrastructure Cost Management
- Manage, optimise, and attribute AWS, multi-cloud, and colocation costs using relevant tooling, tagging, and account structures
- Consolidate cloud and colocation cost data into a unified financial model covering usage, facilities, connectivity, and hardware lifecycle

Optimisation & Strategy
- Identify and drive optimisation opportunities across rightsizing, reserved capacity, workload placement, and vendor spend
- Model TCO, build-vs-buy, and cloud-vs-colo decisions while forecasting spend and highlighting budget variances

Business Partnering
- Translate infrastructure cost data into clear commercial insights for Finance, Engineering, Product, and senior leadership
- Partner on budgeting, forecasting, margin analysis, and cost-aware development practices, presenting recommendations to leadership and the board

What we’re looking for:
We are looking for an experienced FinOps Engineer to own end-to-end cost visibility and financial accountability across our cloud and colocation infrastructure. This is a pivotal role that bridges engineering, finance, and business leadership.
Must have skills and experience:
- 3+ years in FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, or Infrastructure Finance roles
- AWS cost management expertise: Cost Explorer, Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), AWS Budgets, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances
- Multi-cloud or hybrid experience: proven track record managing costs across cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and/or colocation environments
- Colocation cost understanding: rack space pricing, power/cooling (kW), cross-connects, hardware depreciation, and facility contract models
- Dashboard & visualisation: experience building executive dashboards in tools such as Tableau, Power BI, QuickSight, Grafana, or Looker
- Financial modelling: unit economics, margin analysis, TCO modelling, cost allocation and showback/chargeback frameworks
- Business acumen: ability to translate technical cost data into commercial insights for board-level audiences
- Stakeholder management: experience presenting to C-suite, board members, and cross-functional teams (Finance, Engineering, Product)
- Tagging & governance: designing and enforcing cloud tagging taxonomies and cost allocation hierarchies
Advantageous skills/experience:
- FinOps and AWS certifications, including FOCP, Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect, or Cloud Financial Management specialty
- SaaS / ISV experience with multi-tenant cost allocation and hybrid infrastructure economics
- Knowledge of ITFM / TBM frameworks, ITSM / CMDB tools, and asset lifecycle management
- Experience with FinOps tooling such as CloudHealth, Cloudability, Spot.io, nOps, or similar
- Understanding of EKS / Kubernetes cost attribution and data centre migration or cloud repatriation modelling
