Looking for a new way to work? You’re not alone.
RORA is growing our exclusive team of FinOps Lead Contractors. We're looking for seasoned Finance Leads, Heads of Finance, or hands-on CFOs with startup/scaleup experience and who crave more variety, impact, and freedom.
We're reinventing contracting
Contracting is great - you get to be the boss. But it can leave you out on your own with no real support and no one to learn from. Plus, it's a real slog trying to keep winning new work.
RORA has set out to turn the traditional contracting model on its head. You experience some of the perks of being an employee, the variety you’d expect as a contractor, alongside the support and development opportunities of a big firm. We like to think it's the best of both worlds!
Meet RORA
RORA builds embedded fractional teams for startups and scaleups, giving you access to some of the most exciting and innovative businesses in the world.
The role
As a FinOps Lead Contractor, you’ll be embedded within partner companies, working directly with founders and the C-suite of startups and scaleups to deliver impactful finance solutions.
Your general scope of work includes:
- Leading small finance teams across the UK and India, providing technical mentorship and ensuring delivery of key projects.
- Overall management of finance operations including establishing best-in-class finance processes, implementing controls and building scenario-based financial models from scratch.
- Applying strong accountancy and finance expertise across bookkeeping, billing, preparation of statutory accounts, VAT, EMI options and CAP table management. Whilst our Analysts and Managers handle many of the accountancy tasks, you'll need a solid grasp of the financial controls, processes, and latest technology to ensure smooth operations.
- Implementing tech solutions, finance apps and automating wherever possible.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Our Lead contracts tend to be fractional in nature (i.e. 0.5 - 2 days per week) so you can expect to work across more than one client in a typical working week.
Your profile
- Available at least 2 days per week, and able to be onsite in London 1 - 2 days each week.
- 5+ years in Finance, with experience in a senior finance role within a tech or e-commerce startup or scaleup.
- Finance credentials such as ACA or CIMA ideally.
- A strong understanding of what effective finance operations look like in smaller startups or scaleup (including the appropriate finance tech stack options).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and competing priorities.
- Experience beyond finance - you’ve partnered with operations, sales, marketing, or other functions.
- Familiarity with cloud-based financial platforms typically used by startups, like Xero (strongly preferred) and tools like Dext, Pleo, Spendesk etc.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, both written and spoken.
It’s probably not for you if…
- You’re looking to fill a gap: we’re looking for individuals committed to contracting and you’ll need liability insurance in place before starting.
- You’re only interested in strategic work: flexibility and operational knowledge is key for us as we also 'do the doing.'
- You're looking for a fully remote role. You will need to be onsite in London at least once a week, often more.
