About the role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Fire Alarm Installer to join a growing and professional team delivering high quality fire detection and disabled refuge systems across the North East.

This Fire Alarm Installer role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects ranging from small commercial premises through to large scale hospitals, universities, and multi building developments featuring complex addressable fire alarm systems.

As a Fire Alarm Installer, you will be responsible for the installation of fire alarm and refuge systems while ensuring compliance with relevant British Standards and project specifications. The successful Fire Alarm Installer will work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to deliver reliable life safety systems to a high standard.

Key responsibilities

  • Install fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, and residential properties in accordance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and installation plans.
  • Install and terminate fire alarm cables, detectors, sounders, call points, control panels, and associated equipment.
  • Commission and test newly installed fire alarm systems to ensure correct operation.
  • Identify and resolve installation issues while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
  • Carry out fault finding and basic troubleshooting during installation and commissioning.
  • Complete all installation work in compliance with current health and safety legislation.
  • Ensure all work meets relevant industry standards, including applicable fire safety regulations.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, site managers, contractors, and other trades on site.

Skills and experience required

Essential

  • Previous experience installing fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, or residential environments.
  • Good knowledge of fire alarm systems and associated equipment from leading manufacturers.
  • Understanding of current fire safety standards and regulations, including BS 5839.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation specifications.
  • Experience with the installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning of fire alarm systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload, as well as collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Full UK driving licence
