Fire Application Engineering Specialist
Location: United Kingdom & Continental Europe (on-site + occasional travel) Team: Regional Sales Enablement Center (RSEC), Fire Offering Management
About the Role
Armstrong Fluid Technology is a global leader in heat, cooling, and fire systems optimization, serving over 1,400 colleagues across eight manufacturing facilities worldwide. Our mission is to engineer smarter mechanical plants that optimise energy consumption and reduce carbon abatement costs.
This Fire Application Engineering Specialist role supports UK and Continental Europe through Armstrong’s Regional Sales Enablement Centre (RSEC), providing technical expertise, proposal development, and training for Armstrong Fire solutions. The position ensures Fire products are integrated into customer discussions while working collaboratively with Sales, Offering Management, Aftermarket, Service, and Engineering teams to drive regional growth.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Application Support
- Evaluate customer enquiries, specifications, and drawings to recommend optimal Armstrong Fire solutions.
- Provide application engineering support to sales teams, ensuring Fire solutions are incorporated into project discussions.
- Select appropriate products and support solution development for fire pump systems and packages.
Proposal Development
- Develop, prepare, and present technical proposals that clearly communicate the value of Armstrong Fire solutions.
- Gather and compile documentation, drawings, calculations, and technical data to support pre-sales processes.

Sales Enablement & Strategy
- Align with Fire Offering Management to execute growth strategies for the region.
- Support regional sales teams with technical insights, proposal reviews, and solution positioning.
- Coordinate between customer inquiries, internal/external sales teams, and offering management.
- Triage and prioritise incoming project opportunities based on technical requirements and strategic fit.
Agent Support & Opportunity Development
- Provide technical and proposal support to Armstrong agents on fire-related opportunities.
- Identify and escalate strategic fire opportunities from agents to the RSEC for evaluation.
- Collaborate with agents and internal teams to strengthen Armstrong’s position on key projects.
Training & Knowledge Sharing
- Deliver training sessions for:
- Armstrong sales and service teams
- Service partners
- Sprinkler contractors
- Representatives
- Refine technical training materials and curriculum for Fire Solutions.
- Facilitate factory visits, showcasing product benefits and manufacturing quality.
- Attend industry exhibitions and trade shows in the designated region.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience in:
- Automatic fire sprinkler systems and/or fire pumps, OR
- Application engineering/internal technical sales/service support.

Technical Knowledge
- Deep understanding of:
- Pump systems, pump curves, and hydraulic principles.
- Fire industry standards and codes: BS (UK), EN (Europe), LPC, NFPA, and FM.
- Technical drawings, datasheets, and project specifications.
- Proven experience in:
- Application engineering with solution-based problem-solving.
- Quick and simple calculations (flow/pressure conversions).
- Use of at least one pump/equipment selection software.
- Core awareness of diesel and electric drive systems (motors).
Skills & Attributes
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset with a strong technical focus.
- Ability to develop and deliver compelling technical proposals/presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication (multilingual skills for Continental Europe a plus).
- Strong commercial acumen with product/project value understanding.
- Self-driving, collaborative, and adaptable to matrix environments.
- Holding a driving licence is advantageous for planned travel.
