Fire Damper Testing Engineer

Location: UK, Field Based

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000 pa, depending on experience

About the Role

As a Lead Fire Damper Engineer, you will take ownership of on-site compliance testing, inspections, and surveys. While some sites have detailed records, others will require you to trace the full ventilation system from scratch to locate, inspect, and drop-test every damper.

For our larger projects - which can span from a single day up to eight weeks or more - you will be the face of UFS on site. You will manage the daily workload, liaise directly with NHS estates managers or commercial site contacts, and handle access arrangements to ensure our teams work safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carry out thorough inspections and physical drop-testing of fire dampers across schools, universities, offices, prisons, and busy healthcare environments.
  • Where no pre-existing building plans or damper registers exist, methodically survey the ventilation ductwork to locate and map out all fire dampers.
  • Access and inspect dampers safely in challenging environments, including working at height and within confined spaces.
  • Act as the primary on-site contact, coordinating directly with estates managers, department heads, and site personnel to secure access to restricted or sensitive areas.
  • Manage the daily pace of the project, aiming for a target of 40–50 dampers tested per day (depending on site complexity and available asset information).
  • Complete and maintain site progress sheets to log any issues or access delays, keeping the central office updated in real time.
  • Use our dedicated BORIS system app on a company mobile/tablet to log all works.
  • Capture high-quality "before and after" drop-test photos of each damper, uploading them directly to the app to generate compliant client reports.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
