Job Title: Fire Door Engineer / Carpenter / Fire Stopping Engineer
Reports to: Divisional Manager
Department: SGD Passive and Specialist Fire Protection Services
Location: Various client sites across the UK
Role Overview
To install, maintain, inspect, repair, and certify fire doors, associated joinery, and fire stopping systems to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and building standards. The role involves both new installations and remedial works on existing fire door sets and passive fire protection measures in residential, commercial, and public buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Install new fire-rated door sets, frames, ironmongery, seals, and associated fixtures to specified tolerances.
- Carry out repairs, adjustments, and replacements to existing fire doors to maintain compliance and certification.
- Conduct fire door surveys and inspections in accordance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
- Install passive fire-stopping (penetrations, cavity barriers, mastic, boarding).
- Complete all required documentation and certification records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Produce compliant documentation with photo evidence in inspection app (e.g. OneTrace).
- Work to current third-party standards (BM TRADA) and Approved Document B.
- Always ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
- Liaise effectively with site managers, building owners, and other trades to coordinate work schedules.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in safe working order.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Timely achievement of project milestones and key project dates.
- Client satisfaction and feedback.
- Compliance with SLAs and contractual KPIs.
- Minimisation of complaints and escalations.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Proven experience with fire door installation, maintenance and repairs.
- Proven experience of fire-stopping using certified systems.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant fire door and passive standards.
- Competency in interpreting specifications and drawings.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good IT skills and ability to manage vehicle stock.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Customer-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills.
- Preferably holds a minimum of a Blue CSCS Card at Skilled Worker level.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.

Employment Details:
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday to Friday. 8.30am-17.00pm or other should this be required
Benefits: Company events, Company pension scheme, and BUPA health scheme.
Location: Split between SGD Group offices (Cardiff) and client/construction sites across the UK
Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor work environments; may include work outside normal business hours. Work environment will include access to and work within confined spaces (lofts, basements, risers, voids, and plant rooms).
Remuneration:
- Competitive salary in the range of £32.5k–£37.5k, based on experience.
- Company van provided.
- Fuel card provided. For business use only, private mileage will be calculated and deducted from pay.
- Company technology - laptop / PC and mobile phone.
- 22 days holiday per annum plus bank holidays.
- Inclusion into the Company pension scheme on completion of probationary period.
- Inclusion into the BUPA health scheme (BIK liability) after 12 months.
- We will provide training to a level of competence that supports both you and the company in effectively fulfilling the requirements of your role.
