Urmson Group
Proudly part of the HSL Compliance Group, Urmson Group is a dynamic network of companies offering a streamlined, one-stop solution across HVAC, critical ventilation, water treatment, fire systems, and M&E building services. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to be part of something important—protecting lives by ensuring fire doors across commercial, public, and residential structures are perfectly compliant and secure.
Operating as a key field-based installer and inspector, you will carry out fire door surveys, full installations, and complex remedial works to the highest standards.
This is a role for a true craftsman who enjoys working independently on site, managing their own workload, and ensuring every single fitting meets strict FIRAS standards. Alongside your practical joinery skills, you will take ownership of your digital compliance reporting, using dedicated platform tools to document your work thoroughly.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Conduct detailed fire door inspections across varied client sites, accurately diagnosing faults and identifying non-compliances.
- Perform high-quality fire door installations and precise remedial works in strict accordance with safety legislation and manufacturer guidelines.
- Ensure all works are completed to impeccable FIRAS standards, maintaining total fire compartmentation integrity.
- Meticulously log site findings, photographs, and completed works in real-time using One Trace Software via a company mobile device.
- Take total ownership of your daily site schedules, ensuring contract requirements are met efficiently and on time.
- Maintain a safety-first approach on site, adhering to strict RAMS while representing Urmson Fire Specialists professionally to clients and site managers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
