Fire Engineer

Salary range: £35,000 to £50,000 per annum depending on experience
Location: Glasgow or Leatherhead
Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office and working from home. Closing date is 7th August but we may close sooner if we receive sufficient applications.

We are searching for engineers with qualifications and/or experience in fire engineering or related field. You will join a team of experienced engineering consultants who specialise in a broad range of safety, simulation and modelling disciplines. Whilst this opportunity is focused on nuclear fire engineering, there are opportunities to work in other sectors (e.g. high-risk buildings, rail, defence) and in new markets relating to clean energy systems and renewables (e.g. hydrogen, and lithium-ion battery energy storage).

If you are excited about the prospects of working on high-profile infrastructure projects in nuclear fire engineering and across other sectors, please apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a high-quality fire engineering service to our clients.
  • Interact directly with a variety of clients across several highly regulated sectors (e.g. nuclear energy, defence, rail).
  • Plan and deliver work, including attending client sites across the UK where required.
  • Provide technical input into many areas of fire engineering e.g. fire modelling and simulation, fire strategy, fire testing, fire system design, fire safety case.
  • Project manage a variety of projects with accountability for resource and budgets.
  • Contribute to business development and manage enquiries with both new and existing clients.

Requirements:

Successful applicants will meet the following minimum requirements:

  • PhD, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fire engineering, or a demonstrable interest in fire engineering.
  • Fire engineering experience (desired in high-hazard or highly regulated industries e.g. nuclear, petrochemicals, chemicals, defence and/or rail).

Your experience might include fire safety case, fire strategy, or fire modelling and simulation.

It is to your advantage if you meet any of the following additional requirements:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
