Fire Engineer
Thrive on openness, respect, and collaboration? Good. So do we. Join our multinational team as our new Fire Engineer—this is a hybrid role with a flexible base in London, Manchester, Bath, or Edinburgh.
About the Role
As part of our esteemed fire engineering team, we combine global expertise with cutting-edge practice. Based across the UK (London, Manchester, Bath, Edinburgh), we collaborate with offices in Dubai and Riyadh to deliver fire engineering solutions that shape iconic projects.
Our team’s diverse experience spans industry sectors—new builds, refurbishments, renewal projects, and technical consultancy. With in-house computational tools and close-knit collaboration with architects, we leverage fire safety expertise, design innovation, and scientific rigour to exceed expectations.
You’ll work on complex, groundbreaking projects such as:
- Iconic sports stadiums and entertainment venues
- Middle East mega-projects
- Advanced manufacturing facilities
- Cutting-edge scientific research buildings
You’ll join a 40+ strong, technically brilliant team, where interdisciplinary collaboration drives success.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to project-manage fire engineering projects
- Shape building design aspirations, functionality, and architecture from a fire safety perspective
- Engage in client consultations and general fire safety consultancy
- Ensure financial performance of projects, including invoicing and financial monitoring
- Represent Buro Happold Fire Engineering at design team meetings (internal & external)
- Integrate fire engineering principles with fixed fire protection systems (e.g., detection/suppression)
- Lead and analyse fire engineering calculations, including:
- Smoke modelling
- Evacuation analysis
- Hand calculations to complex 3D CFD modelling (CFD experience is welcome but not essential)

Qualifications & Experience
- A higher education qualification in engineering or fire safety/related subjects
- Demonstrable professional experience delivering fire and life safety designs for UK-based projects
- Proven ability to obtain approval for prescriptive and performance-based solutions from authorities
