Role Description

This full-time hybrid role is based in Brighton, with a combination of on-site work and some work from home. The Fire Safety Manager/Surveyor will carry out regular fire safety inspections and surveys across council properties, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and internal policies. The role involves assessing fire risks, preparing and updating fire risk assessments, recommending corrective actions, and monitoring implementation of safety measures.

The postholder will be prorated to provide guidance and training to staff and stakeholders on fire safety procedures, emergency planning, and best practice, and will support accident and incident investigations related to fire and safety. The Fire Safety Manager/Surveyor will collaborate with other departments and external partners to improve safety standards, contribute to policies and procedures, and maintain accurate records and reports for audits and performance monitoring.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess strong fire safety skills, with experience applying safety standards in public sector or property-related settings. Candidates should possess fire safety experience, with the ability to consider wellbeing, risk exposure, and safe working practices in fire safety planning. Candidates should possess Accident Investigation skills, including collecting evidence, analysing incidents, and recommending preventive actions related to fire and safety issues.

Relevant professional qualifications in fire safety, health and safety, or building surveying accredited by the IFE, CIOB or relevant bodies (e.g., NEBOSH, fire risk assessment certifications) would be beneficial. Knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, building regulations, and risk assessment methodologies would be advantageous. Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
