Firmware Engineer - Location: London (On-site) (£80,000)

Why Join?

We're building technology that is powerful, easy to use, and makes a real difference. You'll join a small team of engineers and designers working together to improve the tools that power our research.

This is a hands on role where you'll work closely with our science team to build and improve the software that controls our lab equipment and collects important research data.

About the Role

We're looking for a Firmware Engineer who enjoys working across both software and hardware. You'll help maintain and improve our internal lab application, working on everything from hardware communication and firmware testing to the user interface and data handling.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Every day is different! You could be fixing a hardware issue, adding a new feature, or improving how data is collected and managed.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work across the stack: from firmware interfaces and hardware communication through to the GUI and data layer.
  • Write and run firmware-level tests; debug hardware behaviour from the software side and contribute to firmware where needed.
  • Run testing to catch issues before they affect live experiments.
  • Triage issues reported by lab scientists: reproduce, root-cause, and ship fixes.
  • Gather requirements directly from the science team and turn them into features.
  • Help shape the next phase of the product: a potential front-end revamp, performance improvements, scalable distribution and logging, etc.
