Firmware (FPGA) Engineer

Senior Firmware (FPGA) Engineer

Are you looking to work on cutting-edge technology in defence, aerospace, and security? Do you want to be part of a highly skilled team designing systems that make the world safer?

We’re seeking a Senior Firmware (FPGA) Engineer to join our established engineering team, delivering advanced electronic systems across defence and related sectors. You’ll take a key role in developing high-performance firmware solutions for mission-critical environments, contributing to innovative technologies across aerospace, defence, transportation, security, and space.

About the Role

As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you’ll:

  • Own FPGA-based design and development, collaborating with systems, hardware, and software engineering teams.
  • Work through the full development lifecycle, from requirements definition through to validation.
  • Deliver high-quality, reliable products while maintaining time, cost, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop firmware using Hardware Description Languages (VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog)
  • Lead or contribute to firmware architecture and design decisions
  • Verify and validate firmware using simulation and testbench environments (e.g., ModelSim, QuestaSim)
  • Collaborate with engineers on hardware/software integration
  • Support requirements definition, design reviews, and technical decision-making
  • Contribute to process improvements (automation, documentation, scripting)
  • Use industry-standard FPGA and SoC development tools
  • Support integration activities, including occasional fieldsite work

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
